The event focused on women in leadership through an engaging panel discussion. The panel comprised of Loretta Brennan Glucksman, Chairman Emeritus, The American Ireland Fund; Eileen Murray, Co-CEO, Bridgewater Associates; Consul General of Ireland, Barbara Jones and Orla Tinsley, campaigner, and author. The discussion was moderated by Caitriona Perry, Washington Correspondent for Ireland’s national public service broadcaster, RTÉ. The discussion debated a variety of areas of leadership including quotas, the qualities of good leaders, the value of mentors and underrepresentation. The evening was attended by almost forty influential women from a variety of industries including finance, healthcare, tourism and the arts. MARCH, 2016 The 2016 New York Dinner Gala kicked off at the iconic Plaza Hotel in New York City. The evening was attended by 100 supporters of The American Ireland Fund. Kieran McLoughlin, President and CEO, The Worldwide Ireland Funds, announced the 2016 Dinner Chairs: Gene McQuade, Chairman, XL Group plc and Bill Mills, CEO, North American, Citi. Chairman of The American Ireland Fund, John Fitzpatrick, spoke of the importance of the New York Dinner to the hundreds of projects the Fund supports in Ireland. Gene McQuade then spoke of his personal involvement with the Fund and how he and his family have benefited from the network. Gene also spoke about this year’s Leslie C. Quick Jr. Leadership Award recipient, Mike McGavick. Mike is the CEO of XL Group, plc. XL has had insurance operations in Dublin since 1990 and the city was XL’s first European location. In 2006, XL established the first Irish-domiciled reinsurance company. Bill Mills spoke of Citi’s commitment to Ireland. Entertainment was provided by actor, Ciaran O’Reilly of The Irish Repertory Theatre who read W.B. Yeat’s poem, Easter 1916 and was accompanied by Gregory Hamilton on the violin.
