It made me feel proud of myself to have a role in the Commemoration… Thank you for giving us the opportunity.” — Hugh, young musician, Music Generation Sligo to mark easter sunday 2016, 250 music generation singers joined a 1,100 voice-choir and the rté national symphony orchestra for an open-air concert at collins barracks, featuring the world premiere of a new work by composer shaun davey and writer paul muldoon – ‘one hundred years a nation’. a nation’s voice was presented by the arts council and rté in association with the national museum of ireland, the association of irish choirs and music generation, as part of ireland 2016. the young choirs – from 12 areas of ireland and ranging in age from 8 to 18 – had rehearsed from january for this momentous event, which was broadcast live on national television, radio and online. under the direction of conductor david brophy and their local choir directors, these wonderful young ambassadors gave a truly inspiring performance on the day.
