connect 2017 • 95 DUBLIN AROUND THE WORLD February, 2017 The Ireland Funds Young Leaders gathered to hear Margot Slattery, Country President of Sodexo Ireland. Margot is part of Sodexo’s global LGBT network leadership team and Sodexo was a founding partner and signatory of Ireland’s first Diversity Charter. The company was voted one of the Top Ten Best Places to Work for LGBT Equality in Ireland at the 2016 GLEN Workplace Equality Awards. Margot spoke candidly with the Young Leaders about her career path and life decisions. Margot was a campaigner and strong advocate of the 2015 Marriage Equality referendum in Ireland and explained to Young Leaders what it meant to her personally as well as the difference it had made in Ireland. Margot urged the Young Leaders to be daring and step out of their comfort zone. Thank you to Davy for hosting the event. Julie spoke about her family, college, her career decisions, and her desire to work with Irish companies from an early stage. She discussed her respect and admiration for the heroes of Ireland: Irish entrepreneurs. She highlighted their impact across all sectors of Irish indus- try and their ability to drive exports in a post-Brexit Ireland. She emphasized the value of female entrepreneurs, and the need for mentorship and a recognition of the modern family. Julie discussed the need and the value of philanthropy, and cultivating emerging philanthropists in Ireland, particularly noting the work and contribution of The Ireland Funds.
