Texas Fall Golf Invitational 2020
Tuesday, November 10, 2020 – The autumn weather provided the perfect backdrop for The Texas Fall Golf Invitational held at the prestigious Lakewood Country Club in Dallas with 32 golfers. Darina Padian, Texas Director, kicked off the tournament with a welcome and statement of appreciation for the generous support of The Ireland Funds and its mission. Darina also recognized the Platinum Sponsors, Tom & Shelly Codd; Kevin Curley of Curley Financial Group, LLC; John Tillotson and James Tillotson of St. Jude Company for their “longstanding partnership and kind generosity.”
The Ireland Funds National Board Member, Tom Codd, thanked the golf committee for their encouragement and input, shared Tommy Gallagher’s well wishes for a good day of golf and welcomed first timers to the special Ireland Funds’ event.
The tournament was a shamble format with a special Kilbeggan Irish Whiskey tasting on hole #9 compliments of Roisin Finan, Beam Suntory. Congratulations and Kilbeggan Whiskey went to the lowest team score net: Kevin Curley, Kevin Curley, II, Brian Casey; and Ed Garahan. The second-place winners were Waymon Levell, Bob Elliott, Gary Beene and Tim Murchison. Closest to the Pin winner was Bob Elliott.
During the evening reception, Darina shared a special Zoom recording of greetings from some of the Irish golfers who have played in the Texas Irish American Cup for many years. Tommy Gallagher and the Irish golfers treated the guests to a rendition of Auld Lang Syne led by Paddy Shanahan. Tommy, Kingsley Aikins and the other Irish golfers conveyed how much they are looking forward to travelling to Dallas for the 22nd Texas Irish American Cup Challenge on May 10, 2021 at Lakewood Country Club.
Darina announced one of the Emerald Sponsors of next year’s tournament, Ed Garahan, CEO, Carbon Companies. “We were thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with Ed and Carbon Companies. Ed is a powerhouse in the corporate community as well as the philanthropic arena supporting Troops First and we look forward to partnering with him on next year’s tournament,” said Darina.
