Founded 62 years ago by volunteers, the Festival is now presented annually in Ireland’s only purpose-built, award-winning, and state-of-the-art opera house.

To this day, Wexford Festival Opera involves an entire community of local volunteers.

Recently nominated for Festival Opera of the Year Award at the Inteational Opera Awards, Wexford Festival Opera continues to celebrate excellence and inclusion, while providing access to, and a platform for, new and emerging Irish and global talent.

Dr. T. Pearse Lyons, a leading Irish American entrepreneur founded Alltech in 1980. He has since developed it into a global leader in its field employing almost 3,000 people operating in 128 countries around the world, with annual sales in excess of $750 million. The Wexford Opera Patron of the Arts Award recognises Dr. Lyons’ enduring support for the performing arts, in particular the developing of emerging operatic talent, a mission shared by Wexford Opera, primarily through his patronage of the Alltech Vocal Scholarship Programme at the University of Kentucky Opera Theatre.

Angela Meade is considered to be one of the outstanding vocalists of her generation, only five years since making her professional debut. Her European debut followed soon after when she performed in Wexford in the title role of its 2010 production of Mercadante’s rarely performed Virginia. As one of Wexford’s must successful alumnus, Angela has since then performed in numerous lead roles in major opera houses and festivals worldwide to widespread critical and audience acclaim, winning 57 vocal competitions to date, including many of the opera world’s most important prizes.

A Message from American Friends of Wexford Opera
Dinner Gala Chairman Shane Naughton

On September 18, 2013 the world renowned Wexford Festival Opera will host its Inaugural New York Dinner Gala at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.  This Inaugural Gala is an opportunity for Wexford Opera to showcase emerging and established talent in the world of opera to its American friends, as it has done annually in Wexford since its foundation 62 years ago.

As Dinner Chairman, I am honored to announce that the headliner for the evening is US award winning soprano, Angela Meade, who will appear at the gala courtesy of the Metropolitan Opera. Ms. Meade made her European debut in Wexford in 2010 and since then has performed worldwide winning many of the opera world’s most important prizes.  The Inaugural Wexford Opera Patron of the Arts Award will be presented to Dr. T. Pearse Lyons, Founder & President of Alltech.  We are pleased to recognize Dr. Lyons’ enduring support for the performing arts, in particular the developing of emerging operatic talent, a mission shared by Wexford Opera, primarily through his patronage of the Alltech Vocal Scholarship Programme at the University of Kentucky Opera Theatre.

Each year thousands of people travel to Wexford from the Unites States and across the globe to discover rare operatic gems and emerging inteational opera talent performed to the highest possible performance and production standards in the Festival’s state-of-the-art home: Wexford Opera House, which is the last major cultural infrastructural development in Ireland and is also Ireland’s only purpose-built Opera House. Recently nominated as the best inteational opera festival at the Inteational Opera Awards and voted by readers of Frommer’s as one of the top three opera destinations in the world, Wexford Festival Opera has gaered audience and critical acclaim since its foundation in 1951.

Wexford Opera has been crucial in furthering the careers of numerous inteational opera stars such as Juan Diego Florez and Josef Calleja, and emerging and established American operatic talent including  Brian Mulligan, Barbara Quintiliani and Bryan Hymel, and of course Angela Meade who will be performing at the gala.  We have a unique evening planned and I promise that you will not be disappointed, whether you are an opera buff or a debutant!

The proceeds from this glittering event will enable Wexford to produce and present one of its three main stage operas this season to capacity inteational audiences in the hugely impressive Wexford Opera House.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call our event manager Carla Capone at 212-213-1166 or via email at wexfordopera@carlacapone.com. Thank you in advance for your consideration and I greatly look forward to you joining us for a memorable evening on September 18th.

Sincerely,

Shane Naughton
