The Fourth Annual Green Gala was another dazzling evening held on the 99th floor of the Willis Tower on Saturday, March 8, 2014.
The Chicago Young Leaders welcomed Young Leaders from Ireland and across the US as they gathered to share in the festivities and kick off the St. Patrick’s Day Season.
In addition to meeting new friends, dancing, and winning great raffle and auction prizes, the Young Leaders honored Mike Dunleavy, star forward of the Chicago Bulls, with the 2014 Young Leaders Leadership Award. Mike Dunleavy and his wife Sarah have many connections with The American Ireland Fund. Mike travelled to Belfast on a good will mission for Peace Players, which at the time was known as "Playing for Peace", and attended the 2008 New York Gala , the year they (PFP) were recognized. PeacePlayers International uses the sport of basketball in Northern Ireland to bring children together and teach them proven tactics for improving their communities. Sarah Crotty Dunleavy’s parents are also supporters of The American Ireland Fund in New York.
Another highlight of the evening was the exclusive access to the Skydeck- a glass floor observation box – that extends out 4 feet from the 103rd floor.
Profits from the Green Gala support the work of the Promising Ireland Campaign.
Over the last five years, through the Campaign, The Ireland Funds have supported over 650 charities and not for profit organizations across the island of Ireland, North and South, and Irish causes abroad.
